IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti said the H-1B visa fee hike will particularly affect Indian students who travel to the US without fellowships. "They often spend large sums, sometimes in crores, with the expectation of earning it back through employment," he stated. "This category will be more affected than the Indian students studying here," he added.
