JPMorgan Chase economists warned the new $100,000 (₹88 lakh) H-1B application fee could shrink immigrant work authorisations by up to 5,500 a month. About 70% of H-1B visas in 2024 were awarded to workers from India, and two-thirds were for computer-related occupations. The hiked fee will raise staffing costs, prolong hiring cycles, and accelerate offshoring of jobs to lower-cost destinations.
