A picture of a rare brown hyena roaming Namibia’s abandoned Kolmanskop ghost town was awarded the 2025 Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. The scene, captured by Wim Van den Heever after nearly a decade of effort, was named “Ghost Town Visitor” and shows the world’s rarest hyena amid deserted ruins. Heever also won first place in Urban Wildlife category.
