The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for five districts of Tamil Nadu and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) due to a depression in Bay of Bengal. The affected districts include Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam. Several other districts, including Sivaganga, are under orange alert.
