Agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan's daughter, Soumya Swaminathan, said her 98-year-old father wasn't well for the past few days and his end came very peacefully at his Chennai home. Soumya, who is WHO's ex-Deputy Director General for Programmes, added, "Till the end, he was committed to farmers' welfare." She said her father recognised "very early" that women are neglected in agriculture.
