Inaugurating Kartavya Bhavan on Wednesday, PM Narendra Modi said, "For decades after independence, our administrative machinery functioned out of buildings constructed during British rule." He added that the buildings lacked adequate space and lighting. He further said the Home Ministry was operating from a building that had been in use for over 100 years and lacked many essential facilities.
