Even if payment is due after the death of a patient, body cannot be detained by hospital and has to be handed over to deceased's family within 5 hours. West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission has issued strict instructions to private hospitals regarding this. Commission also warned that if a private hospital refuses to oblige, its license will be cancelled.
