How did a bird’s beak save Japan’s bullet train project?
short by Ankit Tiwari / on 30 Aug 2025,Saturday
Japan’s bullet trains initially created deafening sonic booms on exiting tunnels while running at over 300 km/h, disturbing residents and threatening the project. Birdwatcher and engineer Eiji Nakatsu observed a kingfisher's beak which cuts through air/water with ease at high speed. He redesigned train's nose in its shape & eliminated thunderous boom while also improving fuel efficiency/stability.
