Lokesh Kumar's death was found to be staged as a suicide by his wife, panchayat member Chandrakala, after his body was found near an empty poison bottle in Bengaluru. Suspicions grew when poison bottle's cap and one of Kumar's slippers weren't found. Autopsies found forced poison ingestion while Chandrakala confessed to killing Kumar after he discovered her extra-marital affair.
