After Independence, Hyderabad resisted joining India until Operation Polo in 1948. The Nizam seldom used the Delhi palace thereafter. Hyderabad House eventually came under the Government of India, likely through transfer or donation. As diplomatic engagements grew in the 1970s, the mansion shifted fully to central control and was repurposed for official use.
