The behaviour of female mice alters according to hunger and reproductive hormones, a study has found. When hungry, they may display aggression toward their pups instead of nurturing them. This aggression is pup-specific and influenced by ArcAgRP neurons, which trigger hunger sensations. Activating these neurons increased attacks, while silencing them reduced aggression, researchers stated.
