Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day, said, "I didn’t have to read about what poverty is in books, I know what it is." PM Modi stated, "There was a time when the poor...had to wander for their rights...today, the government comes to (their) doorstep, delivering schemes directly to the beneficiaries."
