Hindu religious leaders organised a counter-demonstration in Varanasi with placards reading 'I Love Mahadev' after controversy over 'I Love Muhammad' posters. The leaders described it as reply to allegedly "provocative" attempts to unsettle communal peace. The row erupted on September 4, when light board with words 'I Love Muhammad' was erected along procession route in Kanpur's Rawatpur area.
