Senior IAS officer Gyanesh Bharti was appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner by the Central Government on Monday. Bharti is a 1998-batch IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre and is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development. This comes amid the opposition's allegations of electoral malpractices.
