In a historic first, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR)—a living symbol of colonial-era engineering and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—is all set to celebrate its birthday on July 4. This is the day its first locomotive ascended from Siliguri to Darjeeling in 1881. The day has now been christened ‘Toy Train Day’. Inaugural festivities will unfold at Sukna Railway Station near Siliguri.
