IISc develops terbium-based paper sensor to detect liver cancer
short by Vaishnavi Mishra / on 01 Jul 2025,Tuesday
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) researchers have developed a luminescent probe that uses terbium, a rare earth metal, to sense the presence of liver cancer biomarker enzyme β-glucuronidase. In presence of enzyme, the luminescent paper discs show strong green luminescence under UV lamp. These sensors can be analysed using ImageJ, a freely accessible software, making this technique affordable.
