India recorded 138 million chronic kidney disease (CKD) cases in 2023, the second-highest globally after China’s 152 million, according to a study published in The Lancet. CKD caused nearly 15 lakh deaths and affected 14.2% of adults worldwide. The study warned that CKD worsens heart disease and urges early detection, healthy diets, and better health policies for prevention.
