India's total fertility rate has dipped to 1.9 births per woman, falling below the replacement rate of 2.1, according to UN's 2025 State of World Population Report. Despite this, India's current population of around 1.46 billion is expected to continue to grow to 1.7 billion before falling, which is around 40 years from now, report stated.
