India has screened over 5.72 crore people under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, reaching 75% of its three-year target. Launched in 2023, the mission aims to eliminate the disease by 2047. Over 1.98 lakh patients and 14 lakh carriers have been identified. Early diagnosis and awareness remain key, says the Health Ministry.
