India may export 1.5 million metric tons of sugar in the 2025-26 season, as decline in diversion of sugar for ethanol production is expected to leave larger domestic surplus, Reuters reported. India was world's second-largest sugar exporter in five years to 2022-23, with shipments averaging 6.8-million tons/year. But government banned sugar exports in 2023-24, allowing export of 1 million tons.
