India has lost its key overseas military asset in Central Asia, the Ayni Air Base in Tajikistan, as it was forced to shut down and withdraw. The base is capable of supporting heavy-lift aircraft like the Ilyushin-76 and multirole fighters such as the Sukhoi Su-30MKI. India had secured a presence at Ayni Air Base 25 years ago.
