Neonatal uterine bleeding results from sudden maternal estrogen withdrawal post-birth. This physiological process, part of transient neonatal endocrine activity or “mini puberty,” may also present with labial swelling, breast buds, or galactorrhoea—typically self-limiting and benign. Mini periods in baby girls are usually harmless and caused by hormone withdrawal after birth.
