A study has found Iran to be one of the world's most severe land subsidence zones, with some areas sinking by nearly a foot every year due to overuse of groundwater. Around 12,120 square miles, roughly 2% of the nation, is sinking faster than 10 mm annually. This puts 6,50,000 residents in danger, with permanent ground collapse and infrastructure damage.
