Iran executed six ethnic Arab separatists involved in killings of security personnel several years ago in the southwestern province of Khuzestan. Iran had alleged that the attacks were carried out on behalf of Israel. In a separate execution, authorities hanged Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, who was convicted over the 2009 assassination of Mamousta Sheikh al-Islam, a pro-government Sunni cleric.
