For most healthy people, sitting on a public toilet seat is low-risk, but people can wipe the seats with an alcohol wipe or use a seat cover, according to The Conversation. The report added that most infections don't come from toilet seats but from dirty hands, door handles and toilet plumes. Faucet knobs and toilet flush levers also carry microbes.
