Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an ally of Hamas involved in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, backed Hamas' response to the US Gaza peace plan. Earlier, Hamas had agreed to release all remaining Israeli hostages but sought changes to the US peace proposal. Islamic Jihad's endorsement may help facilitate the release of hostages held by both groups in Gaza.
