Reacting to Supreme Court directing authorities to pick up stray dogs and have them shifted to shelters, animal rights group PETA said that "jailing of dogs isn't scientific and has never worked". PETA India's Senior Director of Veterinary Affairs Mini Aravindan said there are around 10 lakh dogs and their removal will cause suffering for dogs on a large scale.
