Japan's Kansai International Airport, built on a man-made island consisting of two separate ones in Osaka Bay, is sinking into sea. The surface of the airport's first island is 3.8 metres lower than when it opened and since landfill began for its construction, it has sunk an average of 13.66 meters, authorities said. The airport has been operational since 1994.
