Yomiuri Shimbun, a major Japanese newspaper, has filed a lawsuit in Tokyo against Perplexity, alleging copyright infringement for using its news articles and images without permission. It is seeking damages of 2.2 billion yen ($14.7 million) for "free-riding" on its content. This amount corresponds to 1.2 lakh Yomiuri articles that were allegedly used "without permission" from February-June 2025.
