Japan is close to a breakthrough in railgun technology, and by the end of the month, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces will have conducted a second live-fire test launching railguns fired in warship JS Asuka. With the ability to fire at Mach 6.5 on 5 megajoules of energy, the prototype is a giant step after US scaled back its railgun program.
