About 42 major Japanese cities, which have state-run crematoriums, made $45 million (nearly ₹377 crore) in 2023 by selling metals they found in the remains of people they cremated, Nikkei Asia reported. Only 45% of the cities which sell such metals said they've notified residents of the practice. Ashes can sometimes contain metals like gold and palladium from dental fillings.
