A five-judge Constitution Bench led by CJI BR Gavai of the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that a judicial officer is eligible to apply for direct recruitment as a district judge. Candidates must have a combined seven years of experience as a judicial officer and as an advocate. A minimum age of 35 years applies to all candidates.
