Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai has formally recommended Justice Surya Kant as his successor. Justice Kant will take over from Gavai following his retirement on November 23rd after the sitting CJI sent his name to central government. Justice Kant will be the 53rd Chief Justice of India and is expected to serve until his retirement in February 2027.
