The Karnataka government has proposed a new bill, Karnataka Misinformation and Fake News (Prohibition) Bill, 2025, that seeks to curb dissemination of fake news online. People found guilty under bill's provisions could face imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine up to ₹10 lakh or both. The bill is expected to be tabled before the next cabinet meeting.
