Karnataka government is planning to increase the penalty for those renting premises without the landlord’s consent from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000, a hike of 900%, News18 reported. Penalty on landlords who allow subletting by charging tenants for granting consent is also set to increase from ₹3,000 to ₹30,000. The government is expected to table the bill in upcoming session.
