Karnataka is introducing a welfare fee on platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Ola, and Uber to support gig workers. The fee, likely 1–5% per job, will fund health, accident, and retirement benefits. Working groups are finalising the details, with implementation expected by August. This initiative could benefit around 5 lakh gig workers in the state.
