The Kerala government has ordered that no medicines should be given to children under 12 without a doctor's prescription, after multiple cough-syrup-related deaths in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. A three-member expert panel has been set up to study use of cough medicines in children, findings of which will help formulate new guidelines, Health Minister Veena George said.
