Balagopal warned that the new GST structure could cause the state revenue to drop between ₹50,000 crore and ₹2 lakh crore, severely affecting welfare pensions, employee salaries, and development projects. He also criticized the lack of proper studies before implementing reforms and stressed that benefits to consumers depend on effective monitoring of price reductions.
