Appa Karamkar replaced sugarcane with drumsticks on his farm in 2016 after two years of extremely low rainfall in Solapur. Drumstick is a low-investment, drought-resistant crop that sells at ₹100 to ₹200 per kg due to its nutritional properties. Appa, a school teacher, clocks a turnover of ₹8 lakh per acre with organic drumstick farming and trains farmers for free.
