In Kerala's Malabar, the Aadi Vedan Theyyam visits homes during Karkkadakam, the last month of the Malayalam calendar (July-August), to bless households and drive away evil. Once a famine season for agrarian communities, the ritual is still practised in North Kerala and is believed to bring prosperity and protection during this traditionally challenging monsoon period.
