The Malaysian state of Terengganu is enforcing a law that punishes Muslim men with up to two years in jail or fines up to 3,000 ringgit (over ₹61,000), or both, for skipping Friday prayers without valid reasons. First-time offenders are also liable for penalties. The law was announced by the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS)-led state government on Monday.
