Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has sought ₹1,000 crore special assistance from Centre, according to reports. Bhalla has reportedly requested early release of ₹500 crore to meet state's immediate requirements. Bhalla reportedly spoke to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in May about reduced revenue collection because of the unrest that followed ethnic violence which broke out in May 2023.
