Among the 10 Maoists killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district was Modem Balkrishna (aka Manoj), a member of the Maoists' Central Committee. According to ADGP Vivekanand Sinha, Balkrishna had 18 cases against him, including the murder of former Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Alimineti Madhava Reddy (2000) and DIG KS Vyas (1993), who founded the Greyhounds police unit.
