Union Minister of Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said that from 2014-15 to 2022, the ministry had disbursed ₹54,465 crore to West Bengal under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). However, they had to stop releasing funds because massive irregularities, including misappropriation of funds, were found in the implementation of the scheme in 19 districts, he added.
