India experienced its coldest May in nearly a century, a rare weather event that is attributed to the early arrival of the monsoon and widespread heavy rainfall. This also resulted in both maximum and average temperatures remaining consistently below normal across the country. At 36.63 degree Celsius, Central India reported its third-lowest average maximum temperature since 1901.
