Mercury has shrunk by nearly 11 km in diameter since its formation according to new research. Scientists found that the planet’s radius has decreased by 2.7 to 5.6 km as its iron-rich core cools which causes the rocky crust to contract. The contraction is still ongoing, the research further found.
