The Supreme Court held that mere absence of written grounds doesn’t render arrest illegal, unless it results in demonstrable prejudice or denial of a fair opportunity to defend. It allowed appeals of the State against the Karnataka High Court’s order. It also held that the delay in furnishing grounds of arrest cannot constitute a valid ground for grant of bail.
