Reacting to TMC leaders Kalyan Banerjee and Madan Mitra's remarks on gang-rape of a law student in Kolkata, TMC's Mahua Moitra said that misogyny cuts across party lines. She stated that TMC condemns "these disgusting comments no matter who makes them". Speaking on the case, Banerjee had said "What can be done if a friend rapes his friend?"
