Supreme Court ordered Madhya Pradesh on Monday to pay ₹25 lakh as compensation to a man who stayed in jail for over four years and seven months beyond his lawful sentence. Calling it "quite shocking", the court criticised the state for its systemic failure. The court said it's a grave violation of fundamental rights, adding that it cannot be condoned.
