Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha that 2,282 fatalities occurred on Mumbai’s suburban railway network in 2024 due to trespassing, pole hitting, and falling from running trains. Mumbai recorded highest deaths at 1,408, followed by Thane with 615. To improve commuter safety, he highlighted the introduction of AC local trains with automatic doors as a key measure.
